The Convex Lens is delighted to be one of the companies preferred in the latest round of SBIR innovation contracts awarded by Smart Dublin. Our project with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council will help them to monitor and control devices across the city using their street lighting infrastructure.
The SBIR contract funds the development of a pilot project which should make it easier for a smart bin, traffic meter or EV charger to communicate its status to the control room and receive instructions or controls from the control team. Our team will be using the newly updated TALQ protocol to implement a management system that can gather data and use a wireless network on city streetlights to communicate vital data at almost zero cost.
The data gathered can improve city services by ensuring bins are emptied on more efficient schedules – reducing wasted journeys – or track data on usage, air quality or other important information and inform public policy.
The technology used to build Safecility, the company’s first product targeted at Smart Building Compliance, will be modified to create a Smart City product with global potential.
